5 Pool renovation ideas to plan for

New pool plaster. A simple acid wash or repair and replacement of your pool’s plaster finish can have your pool looking brand new. Pool plaster protects a gunite swimming pool from damage and adds aesthetic appeal. Aggregate finishes come in a variety of textures and colors. Look for a finish that can help extend the life of your pools’ finish.

Upgrade to a saltwater chlorination system.  There are many benefits to using a salt water chlorinator system. While not new, more pool owners are turning to these systems as a way to turn away from using so much chlorine and other chemicals to keep the pool water clean. When the pool water requires chlorine, the salt in the chlorinator is converted into chlorine through a simple chemical process. Chlorinators prevent itchy eyes and green hair by regulating their own chlorine levels — many people say it makes their skin feel silky smooth.

Aesthetically pleasing and safety minded. Add fiber optic or LED lights to the swimming pool during the remodel. Colored fiber optic lights light up the underwater swimming area and increase the value of your swimming pool. LED and fiber optics lights create a dynamic background for night time gatherings and parties. Opt to have fiber optic lights installed at the bottom of the pool or if you have a waterfall, consider adding lights to that area. Fiber optic and LED lights can have a light board to change the colors and ambiance based on the mood of the evening. In-pool lighting also makes swimming at night safer, especially if you have a deep end.

Automation and accessories. Automate pool vacuuming duties between service visits by having an automatic vacuum installed. Accessories like a fountain, rock waterfall, sunshelves, diving board, pool heater, automatic pool cover and others add to the fun and/or the ease of pool ownership.

Update or add a deck. Many pool owners will cut corners on the deck or outdoor living space when they first build their swimming pool. Eventually they decide they want a deck and outdoor living area in which to relax and spend time. This comes about when they realize they spend more time around the pool than they do in the pool and want to have a place to just be outdoors and enjoy the pool and the outdoor living area comes into play.

There are many other items you could undertake during a swimming pool renovation, but this is a good jumping off point to get you started. Give us a call today if you’re considering a pool renovation or remodel this year.
