Pools throughout Texas can be hazardous if left open to the public. Drowning, as a result of unlocked doors and gates, was one of the many causes of children’s deaths in 2011.

Additionally, municipal health inspectors are not enforcing any safety standards or state requirements, such as opening the pool when it is raining outside or leaving gates unlocked.

According to Mike Baker, president of the Corpus Christi Chapter of the Independent Pool & Spa Service Association, often times, tenants often pressure pool operators to keep the pool open despite the rules.

It is recommended that when owning a pool, one takes the safest procedures possible in order to prevent any tragedies.
