Swimming pool installations are predicted to gain popularity in 2012. New restrictions might be imposed this year that will stall all new construction and renovations in Texas due to the droughts in Texas.

The possibility of declaring a statewide drought is a result of the volume decrease of the reservoirs and lakes. The decrease is at 50 percent.

Declaring a Stage 4 drought would limit the number of permits for private pools and spas. Approval would depend on the location and whether there are water conservation ordinances in place to prevent any additional strain to the environmental resources.

9-year-old dies in motel swimming pool

A 9-year-old girl vacationing with her parents at the Jersey Shore has died after she was found unconscious in a motel swimming pool.

A police officer performed CPR on the girl, but she was pronounced dead a short time later at Community Medical Center.

It was not immediately clear how the girl got into the pool.
