Home Pool Safety 101

Posted on May 16th, 2013 No Comments

Texas pools are an aquatic sanctuary for children and adults desperately trying to escape sizzling temperatures. The focal point for adventure, cooling off, and relaxation, home pools are appreciated and adored. Perhaps in all of that fun and adoration, pool safety is neglected. It is important that parents study and implement safety pool tips to keep their children from harm.

Children do not have the ability to process or recognize impending danger as adults do, like drowning. Start the summer off with a refresher’s course in home pool safety from an article posted on Yahoo News online courtesy of PRWEB, which detailed safety tips provided by Alarm System Report. Here a few to consider:

  • Before allowing your children to enter the pool area and pool, make sure you have a mobile phone with you in case of an emergency. Always provide constant supervision.
  • If your pool is fenced in, it is critical to remove chairs, fallen tree limbs, and other reachable items children use to climb over, gaining access into the pool.
  • Make sure to remove all toys and attractive items from the pool when not in use. Floating toys entice children, causing them to fall into the pool.

It is wise to take a CPR course in the event your child is unable to respond. You can never be too prepared.

Or maybe you can. Jump on the bandwagon and call your local swimming pool installation experts to escape this summer’s wrath. Meteorologists of the National Weather Service have declared the continuous drought in Texas a state of emergency. Triple-digit temperatures threaten Texans with the prospect of heat strokes as the sweltering heat is expected to proceed through October.

Heat strokes cause 400 deaths annually in the United States, with 3,442 deaths between 1999 and 2003. And as summer temperatures continue to escalate with passing years, heat strokes are expected to increase. Warning signs of an impending heat stroke include disorientation, muscle cramps and rapid breathing. Often undetected or dismissed as a simple wave of exhaustion, a person can fall into a coma or suffer brain damage.

Don’t be another statistic. Keep your family and friends cool this summer without the stress of worrying about the heat. Survive the months of sizzling Texas heat with a refreshing paradise beyond the doors of your patio, a swimming pool.

Water Torture

Posted on April 12th, 2013 No Comments

No, not the 16th century Chinese torture method. Rather in ground swimming pool leaks, which equally torture pool owners to no end. Witnessing your pool water levels drop beneath the gleaming blue tint is enough to drive a person mad. Is there no stopping it? Yes, there is, with the help of your esteemed local pool technicians equipped with expert knowledge in detecting and repairing leaks.

Aside from lowering water levels by at least two inches per week, swimming pool leaks also allow heat and essential chemicals to escape your pool, creating cold, dirty water. Unfortunately, they also provoke problems in the structural component of your pool by dispersing fill dirt. Leaks do not discriminate, occurring in concrete, liners, filter systems, heaters and valves.

Do not let an annoying leak ruin your utopian backyard. Act now.

Public Pools A Petri Dish For Germs

Posted on March 26th, 2013 No Comments

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), 15 to 20 children annually fall victim to the diseases teeming in public pools. The parasites, bacteria and viruses end up swimming in the bodies of innocent pool-lovers in the form of stomach bugs, nausea, diarrhea and vomiting. Do not be fooled by the clean smell of chlorine as the assuring aroma usually derives from a concoction of bodily waste, like urine and sweat, germs, like E. coli, and chlorine.

Avoid a spring and summer of sickness and introduce your children to an aquatic adventure. Install a pool in your backyard and enjoy the security of monitoring your children from the backdoor and the added perk of knowing they are swimming in clean water. Plan pool parties and barbecues for the entire family without the fear of an epidemic.

Harnessing the Sun

Harnessing the Sun

Across the nation, people are becoming more aware of the environment and trying to find ways to preserve our natural resources. Solar energy has been a popular source of power for the energy conscious and recent studies have shown that it can also be used to heat pool water.

The use of solar panels has recently been discovered that harnessing the suns energy can also be used to power pool pumps. A Hawaiian condo was the first commercial pool to solely use solar power. They saw extreme changes in their electric bill; it went from about $1400 a month to $145 a month.

According to a study by the Solar Energy Industries Association, nearly 30,000 solar pool heating costs run from $4000 to $6000 a year. If installed correctly, homeowners should see a return on their investment in approximately two years.

Texas Code Enforcement Gets Strict

Posted on January 3rd, 2013 No Comments

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation announced earlier this year that they will fine pool service companies for fraudulent claims stating that they are licensed to perform electrical work. Companies will only be allowed to employ licensed electrical contractors.

David Gonzalez, Compliance Manager at the TDLR in Austin, Texas, states you cannot offer to perform electrical installations without the proper contracting license. Pool companies will now be required to a Residential Appliance Installer’s License or employ staff that holds this license.

Many pool service companies who’ve complied with the law say that this is a good thing because they can’t be underbid by unlicensed workers anymore. Many believe that this crackdown will close gaps from past years of inconsistency.

Reduce Blood Pressure with Swimming

Posted on February 24th, 2012 No Comments

A study conducted by the American Journal of Cardiology has found swimming aids in reduciing blood pressure and improved artery health for the elderly, reported Wall Stree Journal.

Since swimming does not put as much strain on the body as other exercises, the benefits are not limited to just cardiovascular. The study sample included Austin residents ranging from age 50 to 80 years.

Results showed lower systolic blood pressure in the group that participated in the experiment.

Pool Cleanliness

Posted on February 24th, 2012 No Comments

Public pools are not often clean enough for comfort. Public pools are used for child care, swimming lessons; they’re located in hotels, apartment complexes, and a variety of public facilities.

According to news reports, the pools with the most health violations were those in child care facilities. This is alarming, since children are more prone to disease throughout early stages of development.

Pool cleanliness should always be a top priority and avoiding public pools that do not follow the proper health codes will help protect your children.

Contact Seahorse Pools in Fort Worth and Granbury to schedule maintenance on your custom swimming pool. Call us at 817-440-4924 to speak with a representative.
