Safety Tips
There are several safety tips from Seahorse Pools and Spas, your custom hot tub experts, that you should keep in mind before getting into your hot tub and that will keep you and your family safe.
Main Sanitizer and Water balance
You should not enter a hot tub until you have checked that the sanitizer level is adequate to keep the water healthy and free of microorganisms. By maintaining the alkalinity and pH for water balance your sanitizer will be much more effective in controlling bacteria.
Water Temperature
If you soak in elevated water temperatures for too long your body temperature can rise to hazardous levels. A safe soaking time should not be more than 15 minutes for adults.
The water in a hot tub should be kept below 104 degrees Fahrenheit, as stated by The National Spa and Pool Institute. Several medical authorities have recommended temperatures to be no higher than 100 to 102 degrees.
Children are even more sensitive to heat and should not sit in a hot tub longer than 10 minutes with the temperature no hotter than 95 degrees.
Spa Covers
When your hot tub is not in use a safety cover should always be placed on the hot tub and be locked. Make sure they are always secured tightly so that chidren and animals cannot slip under. If your cover is no longer in good condition then it is necessary to replace it.
Note: Children should not be left unattended in or around hot tubs, spas or pools. This poses a drowning hazard that can be avoided. Remember, a few moments alone is too long.
Electrical Devices
You should NEVER handle electric devices such as corded phones, radios, televisions or hair dryers around your hot tub, pool or spa. You should also never come in contact with electrical wires when your hands, feet and body are wet. All electrical outlets should be kept at a safe distance away from your hot tub and any outlet in the pool area should have ground fault interrupter (GFI) outlets.
